Tall Running Bamboo

Phyllostachys bambusoides - Japanese Timber Bamboo A giant bamboo to 72' tall with 6" green culms. The culms are tall and straight with thick walls, and are desirable for building objects. Hardy to 5 degrees. Grows in sun or shade. A mature grove is growing in the nursery. A favorite bamboo. In stock in limited sizes. 
Phyllostachys glauca 'Yunzhu' Yunzhu Bamboo Uncommon/rare bamboo to 34' tall with 2" culms. Some culms have minor black mottling, hence one common name is 'Leopard Bamboo', but it is not a striking feature. Nice basic bamboo.  Very hardy to 0 degrees. Takes full sun or shade. Small bushtit birds in our nursery often choose this bamboo to make their hanging nests. In stock. 
Phyllostachys nigra - Black Bamboo One of the nursery's most popular bamboos. The 2" culms emerge green and turn black within the first year. Graceful habit and beautiful form. To 30' tall. Very hardy to 0 degrees. Takes sun or shade. Should be contained within a barrier or planted in an area where it can spread. It can be invasive. Most black bamboos prefer a little shade in the heat of the afternoon, but will grow in full sun. In stock. This customer favorite is also a nursery staff favorite. A mature grove is growing behind the nursery barn. In stock. 
Phyllostachys stimulosa -This bamboo is noted for its prominent nodes. Can grow to about 25' tall with 1.5" stalks. Hardy to -5 degrees. Takes sun or some shade. Makes a good screen. In stock.  
Semiarundinaria fastuosa - Narihira Bamboo, Temple Bamboo, Red Stemmed Bamboo. This bamboo is erect, straight, and narrow making it a great bamboo for a screen in a narrow area. The 1 1/2" culms are green but turn a reddish or purplish-brown over time. This stately bamboo is 30' tall. Considered less invasive than other running bamboos; it should still be contained. Very hardy to -5 degrees. Takes sun or shade. A long time nursery favorite. A large, lovely mature grove is growing in the back of our nursery. We no longer stock this bamboo but have a large specimen left. 
Semiarundinaria yashadake 'Kimmei' Golden Yashadake Bamboo Running bamboo with golden yellow stalks. Culms are 1.5" mature on mature plants. To 25' tall but usually less, around 15'.  Hardy to 5 degrees. Takes sun or shade. Considered less invasive than other running bamboos; it should still be contained. Mature shape is upright and growth is dense, making it an excellent screen. Graceful plant. In stock.
